So here we are, and here you are. We are all here just “living life”. Whatever that means to us. Some people are out here having AMAZING LIVES! Some of us, not so much. I’m some place in between. I’m having a LOT of fun out here in this thing called life. I’ve been learning SO MUCH! This past month, I learned I made a $6,000 mistake. Well, it wasn’t really a “mistake” per say, it was more like an “Expensive Ass Learning Experience”. Back in 2012, I signed up for AFLAC insurance, because that dumb duck captivated me and I said “We need that as a Company”. My mother begrudgingly went along with the idea, even though she never liked it. Boy was I wrong. It is now 2017. I NEVER USED THE INSURANCE! The insurance was costing us $80 a month. Do you know how much I would have in just a regular savings account with 1.20% interest?!?! MORE THAN I HAVE RIGHT NOW! Guess how I’m feeling? Like a sitting duck. It happens, what we think was best for us at the time. May simply have not been the best way. You dust yourself off, you keep moving and growing.
Thinking about this, took me to some of my “first childhood thoughts”. I’ve been “reflecting” a lot lately. I have a 14 year old company, while it’s a teenager, man, my “kid” has been a little “slow”. It’s never been one of those “Super Stars” that made a Million in it’s first few years. Nope, my kid has been in “remedial reading classes” for quite some time. However, I’m a PROUD MOTHER! Because my kid can read! It’s can do things many other kids it’s age can’t. My child’s name is “FireSign Inc.” Even though, he may have started off slow, he fully supports me and for that I am VERY proud! We keep learning and growing together EVERYDAY!
In my reflection, I also think about my “first memories”. I remember what’s important to me. Ever since I read this article about the “Xennials Generation”. And it makes me think about what and who really raised me. Do you know who REALLY raised me? (Outside of my Parents). Prince, PRINCE ROGERS NELSON RAISED ME! I remember the Controversy Poster on my Aunts wall as a “first memory”. I remember watching Purple Rain at my 6 yr old Birthday Slumber Party. (don’t judge me, my mom and I grew up together :), she was 20 when I was born). Now keep in mind, my 6 yr old mind didn’t really know what “Darling Nikki” was up to per say. But I KNEW it was something SPECIAL! Not to mention, my middle name is Nicole, so my nickname was “Nikki”. It was at that moment. I knew Prince was special in my life and it’s been all highlights ever since!
I believe the goal in life, is to give your best to people. The goal is to make people feel as great and give as much as Prince gave me. At least this is the way I look at it. Because of him, I knew a girl named Nikki…
